About the Urhobo Historical Society
Established in August 1999, the UHS is a forum for the promotion and
publication of Urhobo
History and Culture. Its establishment was necessitated by the need
to fill a void at a critical period of our history during the Warri
crisis
of May -June 1999. Besides its defense of Urhobo interests in the
political
sphere, it also provides a valuable documentation of Urhobo History and
Culture hitherto unknown in cyberspace. Through your contributions, the
web site of the UHS has emerged as an important reference point for
Urhobo
History and Culture in cyberspace. We thank you all for this
development.
The First Annual Meeting and Conference will afford us all an opportunity to reflect on our contributions to, and challenges in dealing with, the development of Urhoboland. The agenda is designed to serve this purpose. Two substantive panels are planned:
1. Urhobo Leadership: Problems & Prospects
2. Urhobo and Her Neighbours
A Round Table Discussion featuring Urhobo sons and daughters will grapple with the topical issue of Urhobo Agenda in the New Millennium.
