EIGHTH ANNUAL
CONFERENCE OF URHOBO
HISTORICAL
SOCIETY HOLDING AT PETROLEUM
TRAINING
INSTITUTE EFFURUN, 27TH NOVEMBER, 2009
An Address by
Olorogun Felix Ibru
President General,
Urhobo Progress Union
Your Majesties of Urhoboland,
Ilorogun of Urhoboland,
Ladies
and Gentlemen.
Nothing is more important in the duties of
the
President General of the Urhobo Progress Union than helping to advance
discussions on Urhobo progress. Such discussions include an
appreciation of
Urhobo history and culture.
I congratulate Urhobo Historical Society for
devoting its enormous intellectual energies to the analysis and
interpretation
of Urhobo history. Todays opening ceremony, which includes the
launching of a
landmark book on the remarkable life history of one of UPUs most
outstanding
leaders, is most pleasing to me as the leader of Urhobo Progress Union.
On Sunday, November 29, 2009, I will lead a
delegation of Urhobo Progress Union to Ovu
where
Urhobo Historical Society is holding its Thanksgiving Services.
We will take the opportunity of that visit to
Ovu to honour three Presidents Chief Omorohwovo
Okoro, Chief John Okpodu
and Chief T.E.A. Salubi who served our Union with distinction.
We thank Urhobo Historical Society for its
initiative for honouring our past leaders.
We appreciate the fact that Urhobo Historical
Society has worked with other Urhobo Associations, such as Urhobo
Social Club,
Lagos, under the umbrella of Urhobo Progress Union.
I also particularly want to express my strong
approval of the works of Urhobo Organization in the Diaspora which seek
to
enhance the progress of our people. In this sense, Urhobo Historical
Society is
in the forefront of the movement that is destined to uplift the
fortunes of the
Urhobo people. It has done so in large part by working with Urhobo
Progress
Union.
On behalf of the Urhobo people, I wish to
thank
It is my hope that this conference will be a
huge
success and that it will contribute in vital ways to the progress of
Urhoboland.
Wa ko
bi ruo!
May God save Urhoboland.
May God save Nigeria.
