Ohworhu water spirit festival in Urnenurhie

This resting masked dancer was photographed at the Ohworhu water spirit festival in Urnenurhie,. The mask has been painted a red-orange, a color that may allude to the oral tradition that these masks were originally of a copper alloy.  (Photograph by Perkins Foss, 1972)
