SAPELE
AND
BRITISH COLONIALISM

Sapele [native Urhobo name: Urhiapele] was the second largest city in the colonial Province of Warri. Situated at a critical point of the River Ethiope where sea-faring vessels from the Atlantic Ocean were able to berth, Sapele had a colourful history in colonial times. We will reproduce several documents on the affairs of Sapele in these pages.
