A Photo Of
Chief Erhiaghanoma Oyovwikefe
Otota of Orhokpokpo, Agbarho
1971
Chief Erhiaghanoma Oyovwikefe, the Otota of Orhokpokpo, Agbarho, as photographed by Perkins Foss on 22 December, 1971. He died in January 1985, at the alleged age of 105 years. His odova (praise name) was "Ekiragbera," meaning, "All of us are traders, but some will be more prosperous than others." His grandfather, the father of Oyovwikefe, was named Eka and was from Uvwiamuge. Eka was the first owner of the title staff (okpo) that Ehriaghanoma holds in the photograph, and was also the first owner of the shrine for war (ivwri) that stands at his side. Eka was reputed to be a great warrior and also one who lived a very long life. Tentatively his dates are cited as 1780-1880. The ivwri is attributed to Akpojivi of Orhokpokpo, and was carved in approximately 1850. |
