Picture Taken By Israel Aloja of Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria [ERA/FoEN]
ERA Notes: "A ruptured pipeline unattended to. After three months there was a massive fire outbreak that claimed over 50 lives. This is the Atlas Cove Jetty NNPC depot (Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation, in Lagos State."
This sort of oil spill tragedy, in Lagos State, far away from the theatre of oil exploration in the Niger Delta, is a clear indication of how far the devastation of oil exploration has travelled in Nigeria. Many such tragedies go unreported in the Niger Delta.
