IJAWS AND IJAW ORGANIZATIONS REACT TO OBASANJO'S MILITARY INVASION OF THEIR HOMELAND

Ijaws, who are at the center of the Niger Delta and were the prime target of the Federal Government's actions in the Niger Delta, reacted with dismay to President Obasanjo's invasion of their homeland. The selections of messages set out below demonstrate a degree of passion and frustration with the violence of Obasanjo's invasion, especially since very little was known of what was going on in the war theatre, as the Federal military forces pressed into Odi, one of the poorest towns in the world. Note that the reactions represented here are from inside Nigeria as well as from Ijaw communities outside Nigeria, world-wide.
